Invented by John E. Maynard, the patent for the modern day Baseball was filed on July 4,1927 and approved May 8, 1928.  The object of the invention was to "reinforce the cover by a material which is substantially non-stretchable and which will not interfere with the playing qualities of the ball and which is invisible to outside view." This changed the game forever!
